The site is located within the Sydenham Thorpes Conservation Area on a prominent corner plot on Sydenham Road. The proposal comprises the construction of a rooftop mansard extension on top of the existing three storey end of terrace building to provide a new 1 bedroom apartment.
The proposed roof form has been developed so it is complementary to the existing group of terraces, upholding the character of the surrounding typology through the proposed massing, pitch and materiality. A pitched mansard is proposed with sloping sides and a gently sloping roof, reflecting the predominant form of the surrounding roofscape, whilst helping to knit the building back into the terrace of which it is part.
