Burnley Road, Stockwell

The site, currently occupied by garages, is located within the Stockwell Park Conservation Area and is surrounded by mid-Victorian development consisting of three-storey Italianate terraces. It is proposed to develop the site to provide a modest one bedroom dwelling. The house is arranged over two floors with a living/ kitchen/ dining room and sunken garden on the lower ground floor, and a double bedroom, bathroom and study room on the upper ground floor.

The design proposal is sensitive to its context, drawing inspiration from and complimenting the historic houses, whilst remaining contemporary in its own character. The front elevation takes influence from the neighbouring properties in terms of the overall proportions and the size and arrangement of window and door openings. The height is kept significantly lower than adjacent buildings so as to ensure the new house is diminutive and does not overwhelm its surroundings.
