Aldo Lodge, Whitwell

The project comprises the re-modelling, refurbishment and extension of a large detached early 1970s house in Whitwell, Hertfordshire, on behalf of a retired couple. The property is located on a steeply sloping site and so a key aspect of the design proposals included creating a street level access via an undercroft cut into the landscape. A lift up to the entrance level is provided, which also serves all the upper floors of the house, thereby accommodating the owners’ changing needs as they grow older.

A single storey ‘orangery’ rear extension provides a light filled and spacious new garden room, whilst a loft conversion provides two new bedrooms. General internal refurbishment works include a new open plan kitchen addressing the re-landscaped rear garden.
